In a previous blog, we shared the story of our PR and Socials team’s internship experience at leading PR agency, Aruga.
Now, we are delighted to share with you the exciting news that one of our students has gone on to gain full time employment as a result of the opportunity through Newish!
A huge congratulations is in order to Julia Crosswell, whose extended internship efforts have landed her a role amongst the award-winning team at Aruga.
What started as a three-week internship became a 4-month long experience that eventually opened the door to full time employment within the agency.
Taking on the role of account coordinator at Aruga, Julia has demonstrated her natural talent in the field of PR, making the most out of every opportunity that comes her way.
Though it was a bittersweet moment to say goodbye to one of our valued members, this amazing achievement is highly deserved. Recently we had the chance to catch up with Julia, as she shared some of her thoughts on her new position:
What is your position at Aruga and what do you do in your role?
“I am an account coordinator, and I spend my days pitching, managing media relations, creating content and managing social media accounts,” she said.
What has been the biggest change between working as an intern to now working full time?
“I’ve really enjoyed the transition to full time work. It’s been great to sink my teeth into client work rather than just helping out with various tasks here and there. As I had been interning for four months, starting full time was a really easy transition.”
What has been the most exciting thing you’ve worked on so far?
“I honestly find every aspect of my work exciting, but on Easter Sunday I got to be behind the scenes at a Weekend Today show weather crosses at Victoria Park Candyland Putt Putt.”
What’s one thing you miss about being a part of Newish?
“I miss my lovely Newish friends the most!”
What’s one piece of advice you would give to other graduating students in the industry?
“Be confident in yourself, your skills and your experience! Take every opportunity – nothing is too small and try to get as much experience as you can.”
Julia’s success from Newish is incredibly inspiring, and just goes to show the opportunities that can come from being a part of Australia’s first student run agency.
From blogs and content creation to copywriting, we are so thankful for the time and effort Julia has poured into her role at Newish Communications, and our team wishes her the very best of luck in her future endeavours!
